The accused confessed to 17 offences at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week

A person who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two boys both between nine and ten.

The accused was taken into custody after eight children and an older person experienced illness at the facility in July.

The senior citizen, from that region, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.

However, he disputed a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was concerning a young boy.

Ruben was kept in jail before a further hearing on 28 November.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She explained his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.

The man engaged in a "treat game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor stated, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and youngsters had previously become sick the next day.

She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.

The legal representative added: "This year his stepchild had concerns about the activities, with valid cause.

"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."

The legal counsel explained objects including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his concerns.

She explained the man continued to conduct the "sweet game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that time," she added.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The prosecutor stated the children were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities a second time.

She said the defendant then played the "sweet game" in a area of five youngsters.
